PBS came out with “An American Family” in 1973 that had some affect and influence on MTV’s first reality sitcom called “The Real World” in 1992. In this show they took seven different people with different backgrounds and put them in the same house for seven months. The first reality show can be compared to “Big Brother” where they also get taped with their interactions towards each other. Survivor was the first actual show that had given reality TV a name. Reality TV has changed in many different ways. First off reality TV shows have drowned out any other shows with theirs. ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox are the main channels that have reality show times on. Reality TV shows have become much more graphic in aspects of sexuality. There are lots of different types of reality shows where there are random hookups between the contestants or even the whole show is based on sexual matter. Many of the older reality TV shows are still running today such as Cops, The Real World, Who wants to be a Millionaire, Survivor, American Idol and Influential, but Unsuccessful. I personally think that the show Survivor has been on far too long with too many seasons. I think that every season it just seems to be the same things over and over, causing it to become boring. More reality shows are coming out just becoming weirder and weirder. Reality TV shows have always been about people being glued to a TV while watching anonymous others do “Stupid” things. You will still find people doing things they couldn’t typically do if it wasn’t on TV. This genre that started many years ago may be causing problems for the near future. People are taking risks that could be very dangerous such as on Survivor or Fear Factor and for what? Money.

Brittney, I agree with you in saying that Survivor has been on FAR too long. They do have the odd twist during each season but it definitely isn't enough to keep me interested from season to season.
ReplyDeleteAnother thing that is getting to me is how many new reality TV shows they are coming out with. Is there ever going to be an end to any of it? Now they are playing that show, "Double Shot at Love" where they have the girls that are bisexuals and you have 12 girls and 12 guys competing for their hearts. If you ask me, things are starting to get ridiculous and a little out of hand.
